Our Story
From Family Home to Esteemed Guesthouse
Our journey began in 1992 when Mrs. Non Fourie (née Ferreira) and her late husband, Mr. Martin Ferreira, moved from Pretoria to Ficksburg with their three children, Johan, Enél, and Amanda. Initially, they opened their doors to visitors attending the Cherry Festival, which sparked their interest in hospitality.
In the early 2000s, the Ferreira family transformed their home into Gewel Guesthouse. Through careful renovations and a passion for service, Gewel Guesthouse became a respected three-star establishment. In 2017, Mrs. Ferreira relocated, passing the guesthouse’s management to her son Johan and his wife Valerie, who continued to uphold the family’s legacy.
Recognizing a demand for quality accommodation in Ficksburg, Johan and Valerie discovered “Canonly” in 2019. With dedication and hard work, they transformed it into Cherry Lane, a four-star guesthouse known for its warm hospitality and luxurious comfort. Today, Cherry Lane Guesthouse continues to thrive and grow under their care.
